The world of skincare is full of tips and tricks. Drink water, sleep well, eat properly. I bet you all heard these beauty and skin care tips at least once in your life.
But the fact is, skincare is more than these basic tips. And I realized it from own my experience.
Since my teenage years, I have always been into the skin care game. From trying out DIY masks, to following all the nifty tips. Trust me, I did everything! Sadly, not every regimen worked out the way I wanted it to. However, through my many years of tried and tested skincare products and routines, I`m here to share 3 of those great skin care tips that actually worked and changed my life (or skin?) forever!
#Skincare tip 1: Always do “double-cleansing”
Okay I must confess, I always thought double cleansing is a waste of time and money. But God knows why, I thought of giving it a try and I am happy that I did.
If you are new to skincare, double cleansing is cleansing your face with two cleansers: oil based and water based. The simple science behind this is like dissolves like. Which means oil cleansers will take away the excess oil and water cleansers sweep away the pore-clogging dirt.
It can help remove stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that can remain on the skin even after washing your face once. The first cleanser will break down any makeup, remove dirt and excess oils from the day and clean your skin. The second cleanser will address your particular skin type or concern and should have ingredients to hydrate, smooth or exfoliate and treat acne. Doing both steps will assure that any treatment and moisturizing is not done in vain,
Now the question is: does it work? For me it did. My skin looked and felt better. On top of that, after I starting double cleansing I noticed less breakouts too. Consider your skin type and take into account your specific skin concerns. Choosing the right double-cleansing duo is key in making sure you get the most out of your routine.
#Skincare tip 2: Use a night cream
I know a lot of you are skeptical about night creams. But trust me when I say it is NOT a gimmick. I have been using it since I was a teenager. It has been one of the best skin care tips I have ever adopted for my skin. Your skin doesn’t act the same at night as it does during the day.
During the day, the skin plays a defensive role; protecting itself from UV rays, pollution, weather conditions and bacterial growth. When you’re asleep, the skin is also active, but in a different way. It’s working to repair the damage caused during the day and regenerating itself.
So why it is so important? The moisturizers you use on a daily basis are not usually heavy. But during night time, your skin gets drier and it requires extra moisture. Night creams are heavyweight and can ensure that extra level of moisture to penetrate your skin overnight.
We all know skin regenerates at night. So if you provide your skin with the right ingredients, the regeneration process becomes easier. In addition, night creams are specifically formulated to promote cell renewal and rejuvenation. Keep in mind that at night, your skin is more receptive to care. As the skin is more permeable, it allows the cream to thoroughly penetrate and work its magic!
#Skincare tip 3: Start using anti-aging products
One of the common myths is; You can’t use anti-aging products unless you are at your forties. WRONG!
In fact you should start using it in your early twenties. The earlier you start using it, the less damage your skin faces. It is always better to take preventive steps to make your skin prepared for the upcoming wave of aging (cause it sucks!).
It is also important to note that the rate at which your skin ages depends on your genetic, environment, skin color, UV exposure and lifestyle.
I started following this skincare tips when I was 21. I am guilty to admit, but I used most of my mom’s anti-aging products (and she doesn’t know till date!). Did that help me? Hell yes! I have no signs of wrinkles and people still ask me which college I am going into? (for the record, I am now 30 years old!)
There are a range of anti-ageing products that can be classified as preventative, defensive and building. Some of these products consists of SPF, Antioxidant Serums, Retinol, Vitamin C and last but not least, Anti-wrinkle creams. All of these products do their part to prevent, defend, rebuild and strengthen the elasticity of your skin. So there is never really a right time to START using them. NOW is the time!
To wrap up…
As a skin care lover, I have used tons of products and followed thousands or tips and routines. But trust me, I will always be grateful to these 3 great skin care tips for my glowing skin.
